ABOUT ME

Dr Rosie Helyar has been providing counselling and psychotherapy through her practice in North Wiltshire and Bristol for the past ten years.

As an accredited member of the British Association for Counselling and Psychotherapy, and with a doctorate in psychotherapy, she provides a range of services, including help with depression, anxiety, relationship problems, bereavement, post traumatic stress disorder, eating disorders and weight control.

She has successfully provided counselling both one to one and in groups to enable people to lose weight gradually and permanently.

Credentials
Dr Rosie obtained a diploma in counselling and psychotherapy in 1997, and became a part-time counsellor in a GP surgery as well as setting up her private practice.  Her original training was in psychodynamic counselling, but she has developed an integrative style, using cognitive behavioural therapy (CBT) to provide short term counselling and guided imagery for trauma work.

Rosie taught counselling at a College of Further Education, as well as providing counselling training and supervision for a local counselling agency.  She obtained a Master’s degree from Bristol University in 2001 and a doctorate in psychotherapy from Middlesex University and the metanoia Institute in 2006.  She has a diploma in counselling for eating disorders from the National Centre for Eating Disorders, and is one of their affiliated practitioners, as well as being linked with Foundations UK, an organisation seeking to provide education for young people about eating problems, and also providing them with counselling.  She has presented papers on her research into obesity at the International Conference on Psychological Responses to Eating Disorders and Obesity in June 2005 and July 2006.

Ethical Standards
Dr Rosie adheres to the Code of Ethics and Practice of the British Association for Counselling and Psychotherapy (BACP) which includes the need for professional supervision of her work as a requirement for accreditation.
